Ano Mera’s community council has deferred its opinion on the environmental impact study for a proposed quay to load and unload construction materials at Vathia Lagada. In decision 17/2026, adopted unanimously at its meeting on 3 November, the council sent the matter to a later session after asking municipal services to clarify points about the project. The decision was published through Diavgeia on 4 November. It is a postponement of the community’s opinion, not approval or rejection of the quay.
The distinction matters because the proposal is still being considered in an environmental review. This council document does not grant an environmental permit, establish a construction contract or show work under way. It also does not contain the full environmental impact study; the present account is limited to what the council recorded and decided.
What councillors want clarified
The community president presented the available project information but said more explanation was needed about both the works and the road that would have to be opened. A council member raised concern about changes to the area and the environmental effects of such a project. The minutes do not quantify those effects or settle the concerns.
The council’s two operative decisions are narrower than a verdict on the proposal: defer discussion until municipal services clarify the outstanding points, and authorise the community president to take the necessary lawful steps. The document does not name a date for the next session or specify which technical answers the services will supply.
The next document to watch
For residents of Ano Mera, the immediate question is what the proposed quay and access road would actually involve at Vathia Lagada, and how the environmental assessment addresses the site. A subsequent council opinion, the underlying study and any decision by the competent environmental authority would each answer different parts of that question. None can be inferred from this deferral alone.
