Mykonos joins Cyclades mayors in call to revisit winter ferry links

Five island mayors back a second daily inter-island link and changes to the winter timetable. Their resolution is a request, not a revised sailing schedule.

Mayors’ resolution · 2 November 2026; timetable change not established

What the mayors decided

The mayor of Mykonos joined the mayors of Syros–Ermoupolis, Santorini, Tinos and Paros at an emergency meeting of the Cyclades branch of the South Aegean regional association of municipalities on 2 November. According to the Municipality of Syros–Ermoupolis, they unanimously agreed to seek a review of winter ferry links after the seasonal timetable was announced. The joint position is a political and administrative request. It is not a decision by a ferry operator or the shipping ministry to add sailings.

Their central request is a second daily inter-island service connecting the islands with Syros, the prefectural capital. They also call for the return of weekend services on the Piraeus–Santorini corridor and changes to a Naxos–Paros connection that, they say, burdens patients travelling for dialysis. The municipal statement identifies disrupted same-day trips and sports-team travel as further concerns.

The Mykonos connection and its limit

Mykonos is part of the five-mayor resolution, so the island has a voice in the regional demand for better year-round connections. The published statement, however, concentrates its examples of changed sailings on Santorini, Paros and Naxos. It does not give a vessel-by-vessel account of a cancelled Mykonos service or a replacement departure from Tourlos. Readers should not treat the resolution as a new timetable for their own journey.

The mayors also ask for an end to the retention of 50% of municipal port-fund resources, without higher ticket prices, and for reduced fares to return. Those are demands in the resolution, not changes already enacted. The practical question for Mykonos residents is whether a response from the ministry or operators produces a dated service that improves access within the Cyclades.

What happens next

A separate letter from the mayor of Paros to the shipping minister, dated 2 November, explains why the announced winter plan raises concerns for his island, including access to Syros and weekend links. It supplies context for the collective meeting but does not itself change the Mykonos timetable. The next verifiable steps would be a ministry response, a revised operator schedule, or a formally published service decision.

Both municipal documents were read on 3 November. No such response or revised Mykonos-specific sailing was established in this check. Before booking a winter connection, consult the current operator timetable for the exact date and route; the mayors’ resolution describes what they want to change, not what a vessel will operate.
