Mykonos post office faces rent dispute and planned relocation
A reported €33,000 monthly rent demand, court dispute and planned ELTA relocation put Mykonos commercial property costs in focus.
Amounts attributed to Kathimerini · court rulings and leases not independently examined
The demand was not the agreed rent
A rental dispute over the premises of the Mykonos post office has led Hellenic Post (ELTA) to plan a move, according to a report by Matina Charkoftaki in Kathimerini on 21 October. The newspaper says the landlord took legal action in 2023, seeking to raise the monthly rent from about €4,500 to a reported €33,000. That €33,000 was a demand, not an amount ELTA is reported to have accepted or paid.
Kathimerini reports that the landlord was partly successful in the first-instance court and on appeal, with rent determined at approximately €12,789 a month. Mykonos Illustrated has not seen the judgments or the underlying lease. Those figures, and the account of the proceedings, remain attributed to the newspaper.
What remains unknown about the back rent
According to Kathimerini, ELTA continued to pay about €4,500 a month while the case was in court, and the higher court-determined rent is to be applied retroactively from 2023. The difference between the two reported monthly figures is €8,289. Multiplying that difference by an assumed number of months would not establish a debt: the applicable dates, judgment terms and any adjustments or payments would all matter. No verified total arrears figure is available to this publication.
This is a case about the cost of maintaining an everyday service in a high-priced property market. It does not establish a market rent for other Mykonos premises.
A replacement lease and a move still to come
The same report says ELTA chose another property after a search handled by Pride Real Estate, which received a reported €12,276 fee. Kathimerini describes a three-year lease at €9,900 a month in the first year and €10,900 in the second, with a possible inflation-based adjustment in the third. It says ELTA Courier is expected to share the premises.
The move is described as planned, not completed. Neither a new public address nor a confirmed transfer date has been independently established. The amounts describe the reported replacement lease; they should not be confused with the landlord’s €33,000 demand for the existing location.
The unused building is a separate question
Kathimerini also reports that ELTA owns a building at Gialos that remains unused. Ownership and vacancy alone do not show that the building is suitable for postal operations. Its condition, legal use, accessibility, capacity and potential conversion costs would need examination before it could be described as a viable alternative. ELTA’s explanation for its property choice has not been independently obtained.
What customers can verify now
Eurobank’s published ELTA branch directory lists the Mykonos branch at Kaminaki, telephone +30 22890 22238, with weekday hours of 07:30–14:45. The directory says its network information was updated on 3 August 2026, so customers should confirm current hours and services directly with ELTA before visiting. That listing does not confirm where or when the branch will move.
For residents and businesses, the next useful facts are a confirmed new address, a transfer timetable and notice of any interruption to post or courier services. A planned relocation is not a confirmed closure of the Mykonos service. This report will be updated when original decisions, lease documents or an official operational notice establish more.
