MUNICIPALITY · OPEN DATA

Mykonos assigns responsibility for its open-data account

A mayoral decision appoints a data-use officer and administrator for the national portal. It defines responsibility for publishing and maintaining datasets, without announcing a new public dataset.

Officer and portal administrator appointed

Two responsibilities in one appointment

Mykonos has assigned responsibility for its municipal data policy and its account on data.gov.gr to an existing employee. Mayoral decision 381/2026, dated 18 September, names Nikolaos Lazaros Kyriakidis, an electrical and computer engineer, as Data Use Officer and central administrator of the national data portal.

The first role concerns coordination and oversight of municipal data-policy matters. The second covers the technical management of the municipality’s portal account, including uploading, updating and maintaining datasets. The national portal presents itself as a route for finding and reusing public-sector data.

The staffing constraint recorded in the decision

The decision states that the municipality does not have a staffed service devoted exclusively to information technology and electronic governance. It also says that no other employee currently has the required technical knowledge to act as deputy; a deputy may be appointed by a later decision if suitable staff become available.

The duties sit alongside the appointed employee’s other responsibilities, without additional remuneration or compensation. These are the municipality’s stated arrangements in this particular decision, not a separate assessment of its technical capacity.

What residents can look for next

The appointment establishes who is responsible for the account. The decision does not list new datasets, give a publication timetable or certify that particular municipal records have already been uploaded. That distinction matters to anyone trying to use local data for research, business or public scrutiny.

Our school-funding coverage, linked below, shows the value of tracing an individual municipal decision. Reusable datasets would answer a different question: whether a reader can compare consistent records over time. A useful follow-up to this appointment will therefore be specific published datasets with clear coverage dates and update information. The present record is an administrative step, not an announcement of a completed data release.
