Mykonos tourism forum: rising arrivals, the same summer concentration

GNTO reports 475,510 international air arrivals through August, up 9.1%. Its case for a longer season also reveals how much of last year’s traffic remained in July and August.

Official figures and stated strategy

Growth through August

In its 13 October account of the Santorini–Mykonos Tourism Forum, the Greek National Tourism Organisation reports 475,510 international air arrivals to Mykonos in January–August 2026. That is 9.1% above the same period in 2025 and 12.2% above 2024, according to the organisation. The forum ran from 5 to 11 October with the two island municipalities.

The longer-season test

The GNTO also says 55.6% of Mykonos’s 2025 international air arrivals came in July and August. Its Secretary General, Andreas Fiorentinos, identified May, June, September and October as months with further potential. He placed Delos, Ano Mera, local products and traditional food in the proposed wider visitor experience.

Those are aims for promotion, not measured results for the autumn of 2026. The next useful comparison is whether future monthly arrivals spread beyond the two peak months, alongside evidence of businesses and services actually operating for a longer period. For specific autumn operating announcements, see the October 2026 closing-dates guide; it is not a measure of island-wide demand.

What the figures measure

The 475,510 figure counts international air arrivals. Fraport Greece’s 1,313,175 total passenger movements for January–August counts arrivals and departures, domestic and international. The two figures therefore answer different questions and cannot be compared as competing estimates of visitors. Neither figure on its own measures overnight stays, spending or how evenly the benefit reaches the island. The maintained monthly series of Mykonos airport passenger movements supports month-by-month comparisons; it does not measure overnight stays or spending.
